We met a handful of fantastic artists that we didn’t even know were famous until we met them. They have a dog bakery! We were more thrilled than Maggie, but she’s the one enjoying the benefits now.Īsheville is one of the friendliest places we’ve ever been (and we’re from Texas!). I had a BLT that had sugar pepper bacon, a fried green tomato, pesto mayo, and wheatberry bread. They’re only open for lunch so you know it’s gotta be awesome. Obama went to Asheville in April and ate there twice. We ate at 12 Bones and it was soooo good. North Carolina has a different style of BBQ (you probably knew that, I didn’t). Can’t wait till we go back and I can do more than just watch! (We did take some home to store away until October!) We went to (maybe) 6 and Tyler tried about 10 different beers. Portland’s always held the title, and is pretty bitter about it. (Approx.) 12 local breweries and they’ve just been named (for the 2nd year now) America’s #1 beer city. We found a screen-printed t-shirt company ( Circles and Squares) and bought our first baby clothes! (That first one says “save some for me”) The ONLY chain we saw was Urban Outfitters. Every shop space downtown is filled with local art, local food, local beer. The town was literally founded around arts, and you’ve never seen a city more art-oriented (I guarantee that or you can stop reading right now). We kept the cabin door open in the morning and Maggie Mae sat on the porch staring at squirrels. Here are some facts:Īsheville is nestled in the Smokies and the cool mountain air is heavenly. We just got back from the most amazing vacation! Asheville, NC is our new favorite place.
